the end of 2oo5

watched a lot of Fastlane today. took a break in the afternoon and hung out with Dad. we went and played mini golf. it was fun. Dad won by 2 shots. if only i hadn’t scored that 6 on a par 2…

we went shopping afterwards to see what we could score in the 75% off Christmas stock sales. not much was left, but we managed to pick up some lights for $5. don’t yet know if they work. i also bought a couple of DVD racks. finally found some that are pretty similar to the SOHO range, but smaller and cheaper.

came home and watched more Fastlane. went out to Denny’s for dinner with my parents. it was cool. there’s nothing quite like going out for dinner at 9:30pm and ordering pancakes :oD

came home and watched TV and mucked around on my computer…pretty sad way to ring in the New Year, but alas, i had no one special to spend it with. maybe next year.

meh…

corrupted savegame files suck as much as the cancellation of Fastlane

played Deus Ex this morning. i was doing pretty well. played it some more this afternoon, but then, spontaneously, all 3 of my savegame files corrupted themselves! WTF?!? and they all display different error messages. that really sucks! it means that i’ll have to start all over again from scratch and i lose all that valuable time i put into playing.

on the up-side, it’s an excuse for me to play more Deus Ex :oP

played more RISK with Dad today. he was determined to win. he didn’t. played again after dinner with Dad and Jen, and Dad finally got his wish. total global domination, and finally conquering his son. Jen won the 2nd game.

watched a few episodes of Fastlane which i found on my computer. i got them from Jon ages ago. it’s such an awesome show and it sucks that it got cancelled, but i guess the fact that it was costing about $2.6 million per episode is justifiable…

happy birthday blog!

wow. i can’t believe i’ve been blogging for a year…with close to 400 posts, that’s not a bad effort!

i’ll give myself an ASCII present. it’s not my fault if your browser has weird font settings and screws that up for you…

the elusive DVD rack…

went kayaking with Dad today. used 2 of the vouchers that my sister gave me for Christmas…last year. they had to be used before the end of December 2oo5, so i figured i might as well go kayaking. it was pretty fun. my shoulders hurt now, but it was worth it. i’ve had my monthly hour or what-not of sunshine exposure to retain my tan :oD

looked around the place for DVD racks afterwards. there’s a cool brand called AVEC that has a style of DVD rack called SOHO. i wouldn’t mind one of them. i s’pose i could spend all my Christmas money on one (the money from my parents was to go towards a DVD rack anyway). unfortunately, all the shops in Wgtn only seem to stock one model…oh well.

came home and played a couple of games of RISK with Dad. won both. he’s determined to figure out the “ultimate strategy” and beat me. just like he was going to do with StarCraft…

spent most of the night checking out stuff on Cockeyed.com. that site cracks me up. maybe i should do stuff like that in my spare time…in fact, i think i’ll start right now.

yeah right!

another RSI & blindness inducing day

played Civ IV all day today. it only screwed up a couple of times in 7hrs, so i guess that’s a good thing…although, it’d be a lot better if it didn’t screw up at all. meh…

so after spending all day playing a computer game, i decided to give my eyes a rest by watching American Dragons on DVD. it’s the one Carl gave me for Christmas. it was a little weird to start with, ‘cos it didn’t explain anything, and there wasn’t any talking for the first 10mins or something, but after all that, it was pretty cool.

now i might go play another level of Deus Ex…

fun with the Pearsons

The Pearsons (family friends) came over today to hang out with us. for the past few years our families have spent a day together sometime around Christmas. it’s great fun. had another big lunch and sat around talking with them all.

we went out to Whitirea Park later and walked around. took the Pearsons’ dogs for a walk. threw a frisbee round and some people went for a swim with the dogs. came home and ate dinner. sat around chatting more. they left in the evening.

played Deus Ex for the rest of the night.

Boxing Day antics

went Boxing Day shopping today with Dad. the only thing i bought was a 2oo6 diary, and that was at a store that didn’t have a sale on diaries. i was also looking for DVD racks, but nowhere seemed to have any decent ones.

i rand up Carl when i got home to find out where he got his ones, and now i know. i’ll have to go into town at some stage and shop around.

went and saw The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe with my family this afternoon. it was cool. that makes 39 movies that i’ve seen this year. not quite the 54 i saw last year, but still a good effort…

came home and spent the afternoon doing crosswords with Grandma.

played Deus Ex for many hours this evening.

i still haven’t moved my pile of Christmas presents out of the lounge…

Christmas 2oo5

didn’t sleep too well last night. i never do on Christmas Eve, even though i’m 23. got up around 8:30 and waited for everyone else to get up. we had a great Christmas breakfast, then i had to wait for my sisters to go off and have showers, choose their Christmas outfits, do their hair…everything that girls have to do before they can open presents.

everyone was ready by 11:00. opened presents. i got a couple of T-shirts, a DVD (cheers Carl) a model car (cheers Jon), a ‘Darth Tater’ Mr. Potato Head, some books and money. with work bonuses, cash and cheques combined, i’m up about $700 this year. w00t!

the Sudoku Board Game i bought didn’t have any instructions or puzzles included with it…i’m gonna have to wait ’til they get more back in stock so i can swap it. dumb!

started doing our new Wasgij (family present). those things are great. took a break to eat lunch. our Christmas lunches are always fun, and late. i think we started eating at about 3:00. worked on the Wasgij for the rest of the afternoon. i was determined to see it finished before going to bed, and i did :o)

Christmas Eve Day

Grandma (Mum’s mum) arrived today. it’s cool that she comes up to spend Christmas with us :o) spent the day mucking round on my computer. played Deus Ex for a while. came up to a bit which requires precision sniping, but the sun was shining through my skylight onto my screen, so i couldn’t see anything…stopped playing Deus Ex. i could play it now i s’pose…

Jon, Carl, Si and Su came around for dinner and to hang out. it was cool. sat around eating and talking and laughing. all the good stuff that should happen on Christmas Eve. drove around Woodman Drive looking at the houses with Christmas lights adorning them. not as flash as the ones out in Lower Hutt, but still fun.

now everyone has left, and my family are all going to bed. i’m still full of sugar and energy. i might play Deus Ex until my eyes won’t stay open, then call it a night…or early morning.

i hope you all have a great Christmas!

homemaker skills +200

if life was an RPG, then i’d be highly proficient in homemaker skills! hung the laundry out, then brought it in again before it rained. vacuumed the house…not so fun. defrosted the freezer…quite fun. went grocery shopping and cooked dinner for myself (and by cooked i mean heated…and by dinner i mean pizza).

so now that i’ve maxed out my homemaker skills, i should probably invest some skill points in something manly, like mechanics or sports or explosions.
