my t-shirt still smells like circuit board dust

i got to use a grinder at work today. and a file. grinded and filed some circuit boards to make a gap in them so they’d fit in some boxes.

circuit boards are made of fibreglass. grinding and filing fibreglass causes a lot of fibreglass dust.

inhaled more fibreglass dust than i would’ve liked. at least i know that i’m not allergic to it, ‘cos i haven’t broken out in any rashes or died. i’m going to stick with the “increasing my tolerance to (whatever i’ve been inhaling)” theory, like with the solder…which i also used today.

came home and had way too many issues with Deus Ex.i think all the problems probably stem from some weird conflict issues i’ve been having with my sound card and one of my network cards…even though no conflicts exist according to my system settings…

but i think i’ve got that sorted now, so over the next few days, i shall endeavour to play Deus Ex problem free…if it pisses me off again, i’m uninstalling it and shelving the damn game! i’ll go back to StarCraft or something.

can you fix my Deus Ex problems???

a bit of a rant…

played Deus Ex all morning. ran some errands for Mum who was feeling sick. do you have any idea how hard it is to buy cold & flu tablets?!? no longer are they simple over-the-counter medical supplies. to buy them, you’d better be prepared to be interrogated, and you sure as heck better be showing symptoms of the bird flu! the pharmacist had to ring Mum to make sure my story of a sick mother wasn’t a cover for my drug lab.

watched Mean Machine later. it’s been sitting on my computer for ages just taking up space…and knowing my computer, it’s probably been collecting dust as well. it was alright. i prefered last year’s remake of The Longest Yard.

watched TV, then spent the evening playing Deus Ex. my savegames are giving me no end of grief! got up to the same point in the game where my last set of savegames f*cked up and had a serious case of déjà vu! spent an hour or so uninstalling and reinstalling and rebooting. finally got the game working , but once again, i shall have to start from scratch. this time i haven’t used the multiplayer patch. i read somewhere that it might cause problems with the single player game…

but regardless of all the crap it’s put me through, Deus Ex remains one of my favourite games.

today paled in comparison

went to church this morning. it was alright. came home and played Deus Ex for a few hours. mowed the lawns later. our lawns obviously haven’t had a lot of water recently, so everything was very dusty…and when you go over dust with a lawnmower, you get covered in dust.

mucked around online and watched TV for the rest of the day.

my awesome day yesterday

yesterday was awesome because:

  • i played Deus Ex for a couple of hours and it didn’t crash.
  • i caught up with Carl and we went and saw ‘Zathura’. it’s basically Jumanji in space. it was great.
  • i bought a couple of DVDs - Deep Rising and Evolution. now i have 10 stamps on my Whitcoulls DVD card, so my next one is free. w00t!
  • i hung out with Jon, Si and Steve on Jon’s dinghy. we cruised over to Mana Island and had a swim around. with a leaky snorkle-less mask and too-small flippers i went sightseeing and saw a stingray and a lot of fish. Jon went paua hunting.

this paua isn’t really sad…the burger rings just make it look that way…

  • we boated around the place and stopped off at some bay or other and had another swim in much warmer water. all the while, we made fun of Si for re-applying sunscreen every 30 mins. sorry about that, bro.
  • after cleaning up a bit, we went into Porirua and saw ‘Fun with Dick and Jane’. it was pretty funny.
  • read a letter that arrived today…from myself. i wrote it a year ago on Team X training and Mike kept it for a year. funny stuff.
  • then i went babysitting. by the time i got there, the kids were fast asleep, so i got paid good money to watch a DVD, then go to bed. sweetness!

watching movies on TV

worked again today. can’t have been too exciting, ‘cos i can’t really remember what i did all day…oh well.

came home and watched a couple of Fastlane episodes. i don’t know why everyone slates McG as a director, ‘cos i think his stuff is awesome. the Charlie’s Angels movies were primo!

watched Star Trek: First Contact. it’s pretty decent for a 1996 movie…everything except for the bit where the Borg drill into Data’s head. that bit cracks me up, ‘cos it’s so obvioulsy fake! still, the movie is a lot better than Anaconda, which is on TV tomorrow. i don’t even think J-Lo’s ass can save that movie…

peaches and cream and pastry

worked again today. spent the first half of the day soldering and inhaling lead fumes and the second half of the day stocktaking hundreds of tiny little circuit board components.

came home and was gonna play Beyond Good and Evil, but there was too much glare on my screen from the sun. stupid skylight in my room…

made some kinda peach dessert that Mum gave me the recipe for. it’s pretty much peaches and cream and pastry baked for 45 mins. it tasted like peaches and cream and pastry funnily enough…

went to a group catch-up with the Hutt Valley peeps who went to Compass and some of the people who sponsored us to go. we all hung out chatting about what we’d learnt and what we want to do with our newfound knowledge.

came home, then went bowling with Jon, Si and Steve. we all did pretty well, considering it’s been about 6 weeks since we last went.

a night in front of the box

went to work today. it made life a bit more interesting…and it made me about $65 richer, so everybody wins!

spent the day stripping wires and soldering. i’m glad i had a fan going at my desk, ‘cos it got hot with my soldering iron and the tinning maching going. unfortunately, the fan was blowing all the noxious fumes in the direction of me, so i either decreased my life expectancy, or increased my tolerance of lead.

came home and played Beyond Good & Evil for a while.

watched TV all night. i haven’t done that for ages! Everybody Hates Chris was alright. My Name Is Earl was alright too, but i really don’t think i’d be in the least bit upset if i missed either show. CSI: New York was pretty good. watched the first bit of Bones, but then didn’t watch any more of it. i’m more interested in crime scene investigation than i am forensic anthropology.

i really can’t wait for Lost season 2 to start showing. and i hear that Prison Break is a cool show too…i wonder if that’s gonna get shown over here in NZ…

Kung Fu Hustle and The Transporter

bought some more DVDs today - Kung Fu Hustle and The Transporter. i used half of my tax rebate from last year :o) spent the afternoon watching them. Kung Fu Hustle is so funny!

one day i hope to own a huge TV/projector and have a primo surround sound setup. then i will invite you all over to my house to watch DVDs and maybe eat pizza…

played Beyond Good & Evil for the rest of the day.

i might go to work tomorrow just to make life a little bit more interesting.

Beyond Good & Evil

installed and played Beyond Good & Evil today. it’s a pretty cool game. you run round with a camera taking photos of things for money. i don’t really like the combat though. you can’t initiate combat unless something attacks you. i’d rather be able to attack whatever i liked…

i think i’ll go to bed early and sleep in again tomorrow…
