i need to buy a diary!

called in sick to work this morning, ‘cos i was. my boss told me to go back to bed, and i did. stayed in bed ’til about 3:00 this afternoon. i feel much better now :o) spent my day sleeping, watching TV and reading.

my life is still busy, and it’s days like today that i cherish. days where i can do nothing and have a legit reason for doing said nothing. i’ve got a bunch of dates and appointments sitting in my inbox, written on bits of paper and floating around in my head. all my diary-shopping efforts thus fair have been unsuccessful, as the shops i have been to don’t seem to stock 2oo6 diaries anymore. soon, 2oo7 diaries will be available, but largely useless for the next 6 months.

i shall prevail!

17 or so hours of stuff

today i:

* worked. did exactly the same thing as yesterday, except worked smarter so as not to get sorer fingers.
* shopped. i still need to buy a b’day present for my sister.
* went to Fi’s for dinner. it was cool catching up and meeting her flatmates. we watched Fantastic Four while eating dinner.
* went to WIT. it was fun. our LAB (show for family and friends) is on June 18th, which kinda sucks, ‘cos it’s right in the middle of the Palmie Team X crew’s get-away…which means if i want to perform, i’ll have to miss out on time away with Team X peeps…
* went bowling with the guys. we all had preyy good games, with a couple of scores up in the 160’s.
* went to Denny’s after bowling for “all-you-can-eat pancakes”. me and Si finished a plate each (3 pancakes). Steve managed slightly less than a plate, and Jon somehow managed to eat 4 pancakes. we’ve decided not to do that again…

all in 17 or so hours.

adam’s wordl - level 1

about the only exciting thing i did today was go out tonight with Jon and Steve to see Brent’s stand-up show. it was funny. i’d think about doing stand-up if i wasn’t such a procrastinator and could be bothered writing material. meh…

so, to bulk up this post, here’s another section of the walkthrough to adam’s wordl…

LEVEL 1 - HOUSE:

directly to your right, there is another sliding door that will take you to the garage. here you can select from a variety of melee weapons including, but not limited to: a claw hammer, a saw, various screwdrivers (both flat head and philips), and an old printer. be careful what you take (if anything), as carrying too much can seriously encumber you. once you have selected a melee weapon, the melee weapon tutorial becomes available to you. simply go to the far end of the garage, and a multitude of boxes, books, and various other junk is there for your melee pleasure. every weapon in adam’s wordl has both a primary and secondary form of attack. for all melee weapons, the primary attack is simply swinging the weapon. the longer you hold down fire <mouse button 1>, the harder you will swing the weapon, resulting in a powerful, but very slow attack. a more common strategy is simply to press fire <mouse button 1> rapidly, resulting in a series of weaker, but faster attacks. every weapon has a different secondary attack <space bar>, and some come in useful throughout the course of the game. some like the saw (secondary attack - cut) are pretty obvious, and it’s up to you to discover the pros & cons of each weapon.

there is 1 secret in the garage. if you search along the workbench at the northeast end of the garage (look at the compass on your HUD), you will find one part of a secret weapon - the weedeater. it won’t work until you find the other part, but it’s worth having.

exit the garage. there’s a staircase leading up to the main floor of the house. under the staircase there is nothing of interest (yet - wait until later levels). go up the staircase. you can ‘double-jump’ <right mouse button twice> while going up the stairs to jump up more that one stair at a time. if done in perfect timing, you can gain serious bonus points, but be warned that if you mess up the timing and fall down the stairs, you might die. [note: if you die in the game, that's it...this game is only available in hardcore mode, where you are given only one life].

once upstairs, feel free to look around. there are a number of rooms you can check out:
* sister’s room
* other sister’s room
* spare room
* parent’s room
* bathroom
* lounge
* kitchen
* dining room

[note: it is not recommended that you look through either of the sister's rooms, as this can result in a serious decline in your approval from both of adam's sisters, and even adam's parents!]. if you decide to search through the sister’s rooms, look in both for a secret diary. if found, these can be used later in the game to earn cash from adam’s sisters. (if misused however, these can result in a serious loss of cash, and a huge decline in your approval from adam’s parents). there is not a lot else of interest in either of the sister’s rooms.

there isn’t a lot in the spare room. you can open the wardrobe and look around. if you search under the fake floor, you’ll find a shotgun. ammo for this isn’t available for a few levels though. you can use a book <shift> to load the ‘reading books’ minigame. this minigame basically involves reading the book you selected. this minigame can be dangerous: if played for too long, it can be hard to exit the minigame until you finish the book - this can seriously reduce your game time in adam’s wordl.

lunch with the girls, dinner with the girls

had lunch with a few peeps from church today - Steph, Mary and Viv. we ate chicken and buns at the playground, then played on all the fun playground stuff :o) it was great fun. i found out that Steph is as much of a “selective eater” as i am. that’s great, except for the fact that she’s moving to Blenheim next month. i finally find someone who is perfectly happy eating Big Macs and Hawaiian pizza, and wouldn’t diss me for not liking spicy food and all the other kinds of food i don’t like, and she’s moving away.

suck!

came home and helped Jen and Libby clean the house so it’s nice and tidy for when my parents get home. we went out for dinner at Hog’s Breath with Ann and Ros later. it was cool.

went round to Si and Su’s house later with Jon and we watched Dodgeball. it’s a great movie. watched some of POTC later, but then came home.

Nochnoy Dozor

went into Porirua and saw ‘X-Men 3: The Last Stand’ with Carl today. it was cool. wasn’t expecting so many of the X-Men to die or lose their powers…but it’s alright, ‘cos they set it up nicely so that if they ever want to make X-Men 4, they can.

Carl came back to my place and we watched Deep Rising on DVD. it’s pretty cool for a B-grade horror. i think that The Mummy was a better movie for Stephen Sommers to launch his career from though.

we got our network working and played StarCraft for a couple of hours. it was cool. haven’t played it multiplayer in a while. watched Nochnoy Dozor (Night Watch in English) on DVD. it’s a Russian movie about vampires. the first of a trilogy. it’s kinda interesting. not the best vampire movie i’ve seen…but also not the worst. there were some cool effects used, but nothing incredibly groundbreaking.

wrong footwear + Laser Force = blisters

so i forgot to blog yesterday. i have no idea how that happened. but luckily, through the magic of television computers, i have posted another addition to the ever enthralling adam’s wordl walkthrough.

taught the Self Control programme in classes today for Team X. it’s a follow-on from Decision Making. we didn’t teach in in the Hutt Valley team last year, so it was cool to learn a new programme.

drove straight from Palmie to Wgtn later and got there in time for my Project K gathering. all the mentors paired off with our students and walked around Wgtn with a list of things we had to find. it was cool. we ended up at Laser Force and played a couple of games. i caned :o)

and now i have sore feet and blisters from walking and running around for a couple of hours in my shoes which are still a bit too small…meh. i’ll just have to remember to wear my other shoes the next time i go to Laser Force…which hopefully will be next month :o)

adam’s wordl - prologue/training

PROLOGUE/TRAINING - ADAM’S BEDROOM (CONTINUED):

other things to do in adam’s room include:
* looking in the purple lego(TM) chest. this starts the ‘lego(TM)-meister’ minigame in which you can gain bonus points for creating styley and functional lego(TM) creations. press <enter> to bring up a console. type ‘lego’ and press <enter> again for a list of lego(TM) instruction booklets.
* if you’ve turned on adam’s computer, you can play a selection of minigames. be warned, however, that you can get addicted to these minigames, and lose serious points for lack of interaction with the rest of adam’s wordl.
* there is a TV you can watch (<1-4> change the channels), but depending on the time of day (adam’s wordl is in real-time) there will likely only be infomercials on. watching these will drain both your ‘intelligence’ and ‘rational-thinking’ stats, and you may inadvertently call one of the 0800 numbers, which will put a dent in both your available cash and ’social standing’ stat.
* don’t be tempted to use the bed. this will quit you out of the game.
* everything in adam’s room is ‘usable’, meaning you can pick everything up (if it’s not too heavy, or attached to anything). however, due to limited inventory space, it is recommended that you only pick up items that you deem useful. such items include adam’s wallet (press <1> to open), adam’s discman (press <2> to equip. once the discman is equipped, the game will play music in the background. you can cycle through the available tracks <[ , ]>. [note: you can search the room for other music CDs, and can buy them later in the game]), car keys (only useful if you get to use the car. other sets of keys can be picked up later on), a pen, scrap paper (useful later on if you are required to note anything down), etc.
* you can turn on adam’s stereo (also generates background music, if discman not equipped).
* if you pick up adam’s camera, you can take screenshots throughout the rest of the game <F10>. if you’ve taken a screenshot that you think is worthy to appear on our website, e-mail it in .jpg format to adam@free.net.nz. (go to http://www.adamswordl.com/screenshots/submissions.html to read the screenshot submission rules).

[note: your game saves automatically, and you cannot 'undo' anything that you do, so be careful]. throughout the game, various groups and people will give you missions to accomplish. these objectives and goals may be at odds with each other, so you have to make decisions that will shape the person you become in adam’s wordl. you are free to choose your own course of action, as there is no “wrong path” through adam’s wordl. during the game, press <F5> to bring up the faction approval screen. here you can see how much you are liked and/or disliked by various groups and people within the game.

once you are to proceed to the next level, simply open the sliding door. [note: you are free to return to adam's bedroom at any stage, so don't worry if you've forgotten anything].

my computer is teh suck!

my computer is having issues again. i’m now positive that i have a female computer, and it must be that time of the month. she’s getting all her circuits in a twist for no good reason, and i have to deal with it. i dunno if it’s a hardware problem, a software problem, or some random female problem, but my computer keeps freezing weirdly…

if she freezes while in Windows, the sound works fine and i can move the mouse around nicely, but i can’t click on anything, and if i right-click too many times, the mouse freezes up too.

if she freezes while i’m playing a game, the sound just goes into an infinite loop, usually right when some loud, obnoxious sound has just happened.

then i have to press the reboot button many times before she actually reboots. otherwise, i get an abnormal beep-be-beep and a black screen of nothingness instead of the normal beep and the nice screen of loadingness.

i wish i had the money to splash out on a new comp…

car-nage

well, after being stuck in traffic for about 30mins (as a result of some earlier car crashes) and not even having made it out of Tawa, i decided to come home and wait off the traffic jam. rang work and told them i’d be in in the afternoon. my boss told me to go back to bed. i didn’t. i played Gunman Chronicles.

didn’t spend all my time at work making battery cassette lids, so that was good.

went to my home group tonight. there wasn’t anything prepared to talk about, so we just sat around chatting and played games. it was cool.

Gunman Chronicles

made 156 battery cassette lids at work today. man, that got boring quickly…you’re bored right now, aren’t you? just from reading about it.

played Gunman Chronicles when i got home. the best thing about that game is the weapons, with their customisabliity. still, there are better games with better weapons…

meh…
