boring repetitive jobs at work vs. people who talk a lot and alcohol

got to do boring repetitive jobs at work today. fun…not. meh…it’s still money.

had people round for dinner - Ann and Jen’s friends. it was great fun. i love our family dinners, ‘cos they usually end in copious amounts of laughter, so when you add more fun people, people who talk a lot and alcohol, things are even funnier :o) you know it’s a good night when people get the giggles and can’t stop laughing. even better if they have to leave the room from laughing too hard!

i’m sure there was some deep and meaningful topic that i ws going to blog about, but it can’t have been that great, ‘cos i’ve forgotten. if i remember what is was when i’m doing boring repetitive jobs at work tomorrow, i’ll let you know…

Outwit, Outplay, Outevolve?

ran the Self Worth programme with the Frequency kids at church this morning. it’s like a typical classroom - there’s the kids who pay attention and want to learn, and the kids who sit at the back and make it had for everyone else with their constant talking. hopefully they’ll all take something positive out of the programme…

bought Underworld: Evolution on DVD this afternoon…the first DVD i’ve bought in about 4 months! watched it when i got home. it’s a cool movie. watched the final of Survivor tonight. i think it’d be cool to be able to go on a show like that…and not just ‘cos the prize is $1,000,000 :o)

Mum’s 50th birthday!

spent most of today avoiding work around the house. everyone was preparing for Mum’s 50th this evening, so there was quite a bit to be done. in the end, i ended up slicing some sandwich components…my cousin Garth came around, so we played a couple of games of StarCraft later. won 2 and didn’t have time to finish the 3rd, but we would’ve won…

the whole family cruised over to Time Cinema in Lyall Bay where we were having Mum’s party. decorated the place and put up photos…all that jazz. people arrived, then we went into the cinema and watched a great bunch of old school ads, news reels, a cartoon and a nursing documentary. it was all such a crack up :o)

had intermission and ate and mingled, then went back and watched the feature presentation: Carry On Nurse. it was so funny! it’s great to see that old school comedies are still funny :o)

us kids gave speeches late. everyone thought they were all great.

cleaned up after everyone left and came home. we’ve got a whole lot of coleslaw, potato salad, sandsiches, cake and fudge left over, so i guess i know what’s for dinner this week…

Carly Binding **LIVE** in concert!

had some quality bonding time with my sister thie evening that didn’t involve cake mixture everywhere :o) we went into Wgtn to the Donald Reid & Carly Binding concert. it was alright. Donald’s songs were very angry acoustic, and Carly’s were average. not, of course, that i am an expert in the acoustic guitar field of music…

let’s just say that i’m glad i didn’t pay for the tickets, and i won’t be buying any of their CDs…

Armageddon in my kitchen

picture Armageddon. now picture Armageddon if it was made out of chocolate cake mixture. now picture Armageddon if it was made out of chocolate cake mixture and was localised in my kitchen. this is why i missed out on eating breakfast this morning.

i was just about to eat breakfast but then my sister, who was baking cakes for Mum’s 50th, asked me to open the oven. i did. when the cake was in the oven we noticed that the cake-tin was leaking, so we cleaned it up, but it kept leaking…faster and faster, so we took the tray out of the oven and put it on the bench.

this is where the Armageddon bit comes into it. there is now gooey sticky chocolate cake mixture dripping in the oven, on the floor, all over the bench and down the cupboards. then my sister tells me that she needs to have a shower and go to the doctor for her Meningitis shot before going to work. add to this the fact that it is 9:00 - the time when i was going to leave the house to run my errands. sadly, my camera was not working so i could not take any photos of the huge mess.

so i’m left all alone to clean up the mess while my sister goes to the doctor and my breakfast sits longingly on the table. after about an hour, the kitchen is clean again (aside from a new chocolate stain on the rug and some baked on stains in the oven…and a bunch of dishes). my bowl of weet-bix has absorbed all the milk i poured into it an hour earlier and is now a big clumpy unappealing bowl of mush, and i’m left with one less hour with which to run my errands.

so my “breakfast” (if you can call it that) consisted of 3 spoons of cake mixture and a muesli bar.

got to the Hutt in time for my meeting, and was able to drop off everything i needed to and still made it to Wgtn in time to pick Mum up from work on the way to the airport to pick up Grandma.

drove by the ZM Black Thunder on the way to the airport, so quickly parked and ran up to them and scored free cheese and crackers and tickets to the Donald Reid & Carly Binding concert tomorrow night, which i won’t be going to if i can’t find anyone to go with.

the rest of my day pales in comparison.

random functions

and again with the working. it’s fun at the mo, ‘cos i get to work upstairs by mtself, so i can crank up my mp3 player which, by the way, has a really weird ‘random’ function. it used to be alright, but recently, it’s been playing most of the tracks in order, then just swiching a few around. s’all good though. it’s working, and it was free :o)

mucked around for the rest of the day. Prison Break was good tonight. i’m tempted to go online and find out what happens, but that might spoil it…

curve-balls

worked again today. it was cool. i like it when i’m not doing boring repetitive jobs.

went to night church tonight. it was pretty cool. a few people talked about thier lives and how they dealt with ‘curve-balls’ that were thrown their way. came home, then went bowling with the guys. we bowled a couple of curve-balls…

cashflow

worked today. it was nice. i need the money. does anyone want to buy petrol vouchers off me? i’ve got a whole bunch of them, but unfortunately, they’re not as fluid as cash. i’ll sell them for what they’re worth, and if you think my customer service skills are good, you can give me a tip :o)

went to Lone Star for dinner with my family tonight. it’s Mum’s birthday, but we went to celebrate Ann’s birthday (which is tomorrow) because Mum is celebrating hers in the weekend. Lone Star is nice. i’d eat there more often if it wasn’t so expensive. i’d do a lot of things more if they weren’t so expensive…

my day of potential…gone to waste

ran the Team X Uniqueness programme with Frequency this morning. the kids seemed to like it, so that’s good. even if it all turns to custard, it’s only another 7 weeks…

there’s probably a whole lot of stuff i should’ve done today, but i didn’t do any of it. played Half-Life: Opposing Force. played it for so long, i clocked it. on hard. somehow, i don’t think that my sister would be too impressed with me clocking a computer game for her birthday, so i should probably get her an actual present…

watched TV all night.

started thinking too much again tonight - about how life would be so much easier if i didn’t have to worry or care about anything. i need to listen to more music. if the music’s loud enough, i can’t focus enough to think about anything else.

meh…

Ohakune - home of the giant carrot

hello. i go back from my holiday in Ohakune yesterday. it was great fun! here’s a synopsis of what happened:

Monday:

we got divided into teams and given $100 with which we had to plan and provide food and fun for a 24hr period for our holiday. me and Hannah got Tues 3:00 - Weds 3:00. planned a lot of great activities (most of which fell through in the end). drove up to the bach we were staying at in Ohakune. it was pretty flash. played poker for most of the night. by then end of it, i was down $95. it’s a good thing we weren’t playing with real money :o)

Tuesday:

today we went up the mountain to Turoa. went snowboarding. it was great fun. got the hang of it by the end of the day, and might have been better at it had my board not been to small. as a result, i couldn’t toe-edge and kept falling over. meh. i still hurt all over, and don’t yet have full functionality back in my arms. some photos were taken, but due to my camera throwing a tantrum later in the week, said photos are no more…in the mean time, pretend that this is me:

yeh! look at [me] go!

Wednesday:

we were going to play ultimate frisbee today, but it was too windy, so we played ultimate indoor soccer ball instead. my team lost (due to the fact that we had 1 less player, and that i was still in pain from snowboarding). went for a photo scavenger hunt later. it was cool.

*the* Ohakune carrot

Thursday:

played Risk for most of today. i was quickly eliminated. i stayed around to offer my professional strategical advice to anyone who would have it. went for a bushwalk later…in the rain. it was quite cool though. played improv games in the evening. it was great fun. then a few of us played 500 ’til the early hours of Friday morning.

Friday:

spent the day cleaning up and just hanging out. packed the gear into the vans after lunch, then drove home. it snowed on the way, so we had to get out and play…

there is snow falling in this picture…honest!

also, there was an awesome sunset on the way home:

cool, huh?

and i spent most of today watching TV i’d taped during the week.
