God defend New Zealand

when was the last time you actually paid attention to the lyrics of our national anthem? it’s quite a powerful song. if we actually lived by these words, i think NZ would be a better place…take a few minutes and actually process what it’s saying:

God of Nations at Thy feet,
In the bonds of love we meet,
Hear our voices, we entreat,
God defend our free land.
Guard Pacific’s triple star
From the shafts of strife and war,
Make her praises heard afar,
God defend New Zealand.

Men of every creed and race,
Gather here before Thy face,
Asking Thee to bless this place,
God defend our free land.
From dissension, envy, hate,
And corruption guard our State,
Make our country good and great,
God defend New Zealand.

Peace, not war, shall be our boast,
But, should foes assail our coast,
Make us then a mighty host,
God defend our free land.
Lord of battles in Thy might,
Put our enemies to flight,
Let our cause be just and right,
God defend New Zealand.

Let our love for Thee increase,
May Thy blessings never cease,
Give us plenty, give us peace,
God defend our free land.
From dishonour and from shame,
Guard our country’s spotless name,
Crown her with immortal fame,
God defend New Zealand.

May our mountains ever be
Freedom’s ramparts on the sea,
Make us faithful unto Thee,
God defend our free land.
Guide her in the nation’s van,
Preaching love and truth to man,
Working out Thy glorious plan,
God defend New Zealand.

pretty cool, huh?

we taught the Power of the Tongue programme at North St. today. it was cool. hopefully our point will get across to the kids that what they say can have a huge effect on other people without them even knowing it, and our words do, in fact, have the power of life and death.

played tag with a bunch of little kids at lunchtime. apparently, there’s this thing you can do where you say “double-double-tag-tag” and do the secret hand motions with someone, and that means you’re both in…except that’s all they seemed to do. so everyone was in. all the time. little kids have the coolest games :oD

oh, to be young and naïve again.

went bowling with the guys tonight for the first time in ages. Si broke my record of 202 with his score of 205. good on him! all i need to do is score a perfect 300, then no one can beat me. flawless plan.

grief

talked about grief with the St. Peter’s kids today. it was kinda cool…gave me a few things to think about. whether or not i act on those thoughts is another story.

watched TV all night. Prison Break was pretty good. it’s getting exciting as the season progresses…i hope having to wait for season 2 doesn’t give me grief.

Blizzard’s Hot Job - oxymoron?

saw this position advertised on the Blizzard website.

Hot Job – Cinematic Story Artist
Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented Story Artist to assist our Cinematics team in creating the next generation of our award-winning in-game movies!

this just furthers my suspicions that a new game is definitely in the pipeline…c’mon StarCraft II

more sick

didn’t work again today on account of my throat being a different kind of sore than it was on Friday. went to the doctor to see if anything was actually wrong, and as it turns out, it’s just my annual sore throat virus. there’s nothing that can be done except waiting it out, or maybe trying to kill the virus with nanites…except i’m fresh out of nanites.

guess i’ll just have to wait.

had a meeting with a couple of people from Wesley Community Action about another mentoring job. i’d be mentoring a kid for a few hours every weekend, and i’d be getting paid for it. i could do with the extra cash, and it’d be fun. it’s win/win!

clocked Emergence tonight. it’ll be nice when more episodes come out. hopefully, they’ll be released on a pretty regular basis, and not once a year or so. that’d suck! still haven’t got any decent screenshots. when i play it again i’ll take some, so don’t hold your breath…they’ll be a while.

relaxing

the CFUH Men’s Camp was pretty cool. it was pretty laid back, which was good. most camps are very structured and pre-programmed. this one wasn’t. it was a weekend of just hanging out and a couple of meetings.

went to Si’s tonight to celebrate his b’day. he’s now ¼(100) years old. Jon bought him a BBQ…so we had a BBQ dinner. go figure :o)

spent the night playing poker and watching TV. nice relaxing way to round off a relaxing weekend

mmm…mucus

called in sick to work today. my throat was being all sore and mucusy. stayed in bed all morning. watched Futurama episodes all afternoon. picked up Kaiona and we went and hung out at Aotea Lagoon for a while. it was fun.

i’m about to cruise off to the CFUH Men’s Camp for the weekend. hopefully it’ll be fun…i’ll let you know.

my posse gives me sherbert

went to North St. today. i like North St. taught the Self Worth programme to rooms 3 and 4. i’m learning more kids’ names, so when they say hi to me, i can say “hi, <their name>” back to them rather then resorting to calling them all ‘bro’ or ‘you’ or ‘there’. i’ve already got a devoted posse who follow me around at lunch time :o)

finished up for the day and drove back to Wgtn. had a pretty uneventful evening.

i want to be a somethingologist

went to St. Peter’s today with Team X and talked about goal setting. it was pretty cool. i still don’t know what i want to be when i grow up, but some of these kids have the awesomest dreams. one girl wanted to be either a vulcanologist (studier of volcanoes…not Vulcans) or a herpetologist (studier of amphibians, snakes and other reptiles…not herpes). good on her! other kids wanted to be geologists, criminologists, and even a paediatric cardiologist. crikey!

i s’pose with my degree, i could be a mathologist…

metaphors just sneak up on you…

worked today. didn’t hit the 2:00pm wall (metaphorically speaking) that i hit yesterday. also didn’t hit any un-metaphorical walls, which is a bonus.

went to WIT tonight for the first time in about 10 weeks or something. if you want to know exactly how long, then feel free to scroll through my blog archives for the last entry that states “went to WIT tonight”. i think it’ll be somewhere in June…tonight was fun. we did a lot of great scenes that were so funny, but also some sad scenes. but mainly funny scenes.

drove up to Palmie afterwards. didn’t need any energy drinks tongith, ‘cos i was full of energy from having been at WIT. cool.

my computer - the drama queen

well, it must be that time of the month for my computer again, ‘cos she’s acting up and being all girly…just like she was a while ago.

i swear that the pesonality of someone’s scorned ex-girlfriend or ex-wife or something must periodically inhabit my computer. i was trying to play Emergence today, but she kept on freezing up. i want to spend time doing things i like, but no! i did that yesterday and now my computer is getting jealous. it’s alright if i spend time with her, but only if we do things that she likes doing, which is everything except playing games it seems.

what do you want from me? do you want me to shower you in gifts? how about some shiny new RAM, or a new motherboard? i already bought you a DVD R/RW drive, a new harddrive (which you managed to corrupt) and a brand new graphics card to replace the one you broke! i’m not made of money you know!

i hope that when i start dating again, my girlfriend is more understanding than my computer!
