God defend New Zealand

when was the last time you actually paid attention to the lyrics of our national anthem? it’s quite a powerful song. if we actually lived by these words, i think NZ would be a better place…take a few minutes and actually process what it’s saying:

God of Nations at Thy feet,
In the bonds of love we meet,
Hear our voices, we entreat,
God defend our free land.
Guard Pacific’s triple star
From the shafts of strife and war,
Make her praises heard afar,
God defend New Zealand.

Men of every creed and race,
Gather here before Thy face,
Asking Thee to bless this place,
God defend our free land.
From dissension, envy, hate,
And corruption guard our State,
Make our country good and great,
God defend New Zealand.

Peace, not war, shall be our boast,
But, should foes assail our coast,
Make us then a mighty host,
God defend our free land.
Lord of battles in Thy might,
Put our enemies to flight,
Let our cause be just and right,
God defend New Zealand.

Let our love for Thee increase,
May Thy blessings never cease,
Give us plenty, give us peace,
God defend our free land.
From dishonour and from shame,
Guard our country’s spotless name,
Crown her with immortal fame,
God defend New Zealand.

May our mountains ever be
Freedom’s ramparts on the sea,
Make us faithful unto Thee,
God defend our free land.
Guide her in the nation’s van,
Preaching love and truth to man,
Working out Thy glorious plan,
God defend New Zealand.

pretty cool, huh?

we taught the Power of the Tongue programme at North St. today. it was cool. hopefully our point will get across to the kids that what they say can have a huge effect on other people without them even knowing it, and our words do, in fact, have the power of life and death.

played tag with a bunch of little kids at lunchtime. apparently, there’s this thing you can do where you say “double-double-tag-tag” and do the secret hand motions with someone, and that means you’re both in…except that’s all they seemed to do. so everyone was in. all the time. little kids have the coolest games :oD

oh, to be young and naïve again.

went bowling with the guys tonight for the first time in ages. Si broke my record of 202 with his score of 205. good on him! all i need to do is score a perfect 300, then no one can beat me. flawless plan.
