today i chose assignments over paid employment

stayed at home today. amidst the StarCraft playing, i got about 3 1/2hrs of Praxis work done. i’ve finished half of one of my Counselling assignments. if i do any work in the weekend, which i need to, then i’m going to work on my Reflective Practitioner assignments. five of my remaining seven assignments are all written stuff, which i can churn out. the other two are case studies, so i need to actually work with people and write down stuff about them. shouldn’t be too hard. i need to do a crisis reflection for my RAP module, so i need to observe a crisis and then connect, clarify and respond…

as the afternoon neared and i finished writing the question i was writing, i realised that no more work would get done, so i went shopping with Mum. then i played more StarCraft. three more Zerg levels to go. i might put it on pause for a while, ‘cos it’s getting a bit boring. hahaha. such is the case with all my games.

yay! i’m playing a game and it’s fun…i’m getting through the game pretty fast…i’ve done this before…it’s boring now…i’ll play another game…

yay! i’m playing another game and it’s fun…

new screen of coolness

had my Praxis cluster groups today. they went alright. came home and updated my youth work journal. i keep meaning to do it after every time i work with youth…but never do.

played StarCraft later. clocked the Terran campaign. yay! onto Zerg.

planned the upcoming weeks with Mum ‘cos it’s getting busy ‘cos it’s my sister’s 21st next week. i should probably write a speech or something.

went over to my neighbour’s house to see if i could start mentring Matt for a while for my Praxis Counselling case study. it’s all good. and if everything goes well, we might keep hanging out.

Jo came round tonight with a computer screen. she’s been upgraded, so offered me her old screen. since it is better than my old screen, i jumped at the opportunity.

it’s newer and flatter…and less beige

At World’s End…again

had Team X today. taught three classes about the Line of Choice. me and Lané did the WWHR drama. it went pretty well. hung out with kids at lunchtime. by the last class, i was pretty tired.

came back to the office and did some assessment stuff. played Catan later, which i didn’t win. Lané did.

drove into Wgtn afterwards and met Jon at his work. Meridian was having a free showing of POTC3 for their employees and Jon was kind enough to invite me. so i saw it again. this time for free :o) it’s still a cool movie. and still better than Dead Man’s Chest.

and now i have to do my readings for Praxis before my cluster groups tomorrow.

rough

went to Team X today. i took a bunch of Praxis stuff to do, but then never ended up doing it. argh! cut me a freaking break! i did a lot of class photo work and assessment stuff. me and Whetu worked on some programme development stuff.

we ran through our Line of Choice programme and me and Lané showed off our WWHR. it’s a bit rough around the edges, but i think that being in class and bouncing off the kids’ energy will refine it…hopefully…

played Catan. i won.

came home and even then i didn’t do any Praxis stuff. ugh. even though i don’t have anything due for 2 1/2 weeks, i should be doing stuff. crap. i just remembered i’ve got to do readings before Wednesday. waaahaahaahaa :’o(

on the procrastinations side of life, i’ve applied for an El Rancho camp for the next school holidays and i’m up to the final level of Terran for StarCraft.

procrastination sucks ass

went to church and helped out with Frequency this morning. it was pretty cool. a few of the kids go to Maidstone and Team X teaches or will be teaching them. i think i’m running next week’s session. it’s Queen’s Birthday weekend, so i’ll be running games for the kids who aren’t on holiday.

came home and mucked around. eventually got around to mowing the lawns. while doing so, i thought about what i should be doing for my Praxis assignments. for some of them, i won’t be able to write everything up in the last week because i need to do long-term research. why do i suck at getting stuck into things i should be doing? i need to start a mentoring relationship with someone for at least four weeks. and for the past four weeks i’ve been saying to myself that i should ask my nieghbours if i can hang out with their son, ‘cos he’s pretty cool and we get along.

someone please e-mail me or something and get on my case about it!

after mowing the lawns, i promptly forgot about anything to do with study and played StarCraft. i’m going to see if i can clock the Terran and Zerg campaigns. i never actually have…

At World’s End

went into Porirua this morning. went DVD player shopping with Dad. we got one from Dick Smith’s for $69. bargain. and Dad’s reason for not paying $17 for the three year extended warranty? if this one breaks in the next three years, we’ll just come back and buy a better one.

but it doesn’t stop there. i don’t think anyone saw it coming, but when Dad was paying for the DVD player, he sprung the question “so what’s your best deal on external hard drives?”

320GB later, we’re walking out of the store. when chicks do impulse buying, they get things like shoes and make-up. when my Dad does it, we end up with things like hard drives and firewire PCI cards. those, in my opinion, beat make-up any day :o)

went and saw Pirates of The Caribbean 3: At World’s End with Carl. it was cool. very cool. and better than Dead Man’s Chest.

went out to Laser Force with Frequency tonight. it was fun. this time, my team won both games :o) and i scored highest at least once. greatest accuracy out of everyone who played. that’s got to be from all y FPS gaming practice…still, it’d be even better with a HUD showing score and frags and a targeting reticle…ooh, and a radar! and i’d probably stop shooting my own team so much if the colours were the traditional FPS red and blue colours instead of the easily confusable read and green…

Friday? yes? hooray!

woke up today and, unlike Tuesday, it was actually Friday.

we taught our Self Worth programme with three more classes. i was doing the class wrap again today and in every class i said something different. hopefully, it’s what the kids needed to hear. it’s not cool being in some classes where negative comments and put downs are flying from kid to kid. yay positivity!

spent a few hours in the office doing office stuff, then went to the Calvert’s for dinner. hung out with them and waited for the rest of our KRANC group to arrive. we talked about baptism tonight. it was cool. afterwards, me and Whetu and the boys played Catan. it was fun.

playing games wastes time

did some work at Team X today. uploaded a bunch of team pics to the website. it looks cool. worked through a bunch of assessment stuff and tidied up our class assessments.

came home and played computer games…just like the good old days. played FEAR: Extraction Point and StarCraft. and, just like the good old days, time got away on me. i should go to bed now so that i don’t wake up tired tomorrow.

stop motion is cool…

went to Praxis this morning. had my three cluster groups. some good discussions, some average. came home and worked for about three more hours on my RAP assignment. now it is finished. hooray. even though i told myself i didn’t want to be doing it on the day before it was due…at least i’m not doing it on the day it’s due.

tried to fix my DVD player, but it’s broke for real. i think it got hit with a power surge, same as my computer. at least it wasn’t an expensive DVD player. i think it cost $80 from K-Mart or something. i’ll have to convince Dad to buy a new one. shouldn’t be too hard, ‘cos he watches DVDs.

i resorted to watching stuff on my computer, like the StarCraft II gameplay video…all 268MB of it. it was worth the download!

then i watched some YouTube clips. stop motion is cool:

Friday? no? damn!

woke up tired. i don’t like doing that. woke up thinking that because i was so tired, it must be Friday. turns out it’s just Tuesday…

went to Team X and taught our Self Worth programme. it was really fun. hopefully our message of or words having the power of life and death will get across to the kids.

came back to the office and worked for about three more hours.

came home for 3mins, then drove into Wgtn. WIT tonight wasn’t training as usual. instead, we went and watched the opeing night of ‘To Be Continued’ - a new WIT format playing at the Wgtn Comedy Festival. it was really cool :o)

came home and forced myself to do my Praxis readings. they weren’t long, which was nice. now i am going to bed early so that hopefully i wake up tomorrow thinking that it’s Wednesday…
