another DVD rant
Dad bought a new lawnmower today. sweetness! it's a lot better than our old one which was broken and rusted and basically just a big pile of crap...maybe now mowing the lawns won't feel like such a chore.
played Red Faction a lot today. it's cool.
was having trouble getting my head around DVDs and their international differences tonight. take 'Doom' for example. the US region 1 unrated extended version has all the same special features as my region 4 extended edition, but its runtime is 113 minutes compared to my 108 minutes. the theatrical release was only 100 minutes, so i've got 8 minutes of extended footage, but i'm trying to figure out what additional 5 minutes of unrated extended footage the Americans get.
apparently, the extra footage on the region 1 DVD includes:
add to that the fact that according to www.hmv.com.au, there is region 4 extended edition available that has twice as many special features as the version i already own, but its runtime is listed as 100 minutes.
WTF?!?
and that's just 1 DVD! there's a bunch of other DVDs i own that have better region 1 versions, and another bunch of DVDs i haven't even bought because the region 4 versions are so stripped down.
i might have to start my DVD shopping on amazon.com and buy a few region 1 DVDs.
