for those of you who don’t have a clue what i’m on about, The Orbs of Klantoon are what the young questers, Dreamwalker, H@ck3r and Oik are questing after. they are magical orbs, and they are contained within a story i started writing back in 2001 as a procrastination technique at uni.
decided today that i should actually do something with my day off and broke out the old doc files. haven’t done any work on it in ages. it came to a crashing halt somewhere around 17,000 words, but the ideas have never left my head. i decided it was time to start writing them down again today.
the story itself has undergone several major overhauls, and is leaning more towards an actual serious kinda story rather than the comic fantasy story it started off as. i’m still unsure whether i should edit out all the stupid funny bits and go strictly serious…but i don’t think that’ll happen. anyway, here’s an extract from today’s writings…enjoy.
“Honestly, Carlos!” said the cloaked man with a hint of humour in his voice. “How long have we known each other? 200 years? You’ve been running this network for nearly half that, and you send out the three most naïve magicians you can find? What happened?” he asked reprovingly.
“Things aren’t what they used to be,” sighed Carlos. “First off, there aren’t a lot of us left from the old days, let alone those of us willing to chase three youngsters around on this quest of theirs. Besides, I had to choose people who weren’t likely to get too…involved. What happened to Klantoon could happen to anyone involved with these damned orbs!” he said offhandedly.
“I’ve heard rumours,” probed the man, “That some of the old Council members have been probing into Klantoon’s work.”
Carlos waved off the comment. “There’s nothing to worry about. From what information I’ve been able to gather, there’s no chance of a repeat of 95 years ago. It’s all petty dealings.”
The man raised his eyebrows in surprise at the comment. “Necromancy a petty dealing?” he laughed. “You’ve been in this business far too long, Carlos.”
“True,” smiled Carlos. “Well, you’d better get back before morning. It’s always a pleasure seeing you, my friend.”
